At the end of the month, I get the honour to perform once again with BAOS Limelight as they put on their production of Evita. I am so excited to get to play on this but a little scared at the same time.

The odd time signatures plus the beyond bizarre drum part is a total reading nightmare. I do tell my students that reading is everything and it really is! Being able to move from 5/4 into 3/4 then in 10/8 is no easy task when the tempo is on 58bpm in the opening tune!

I do highly recommend coming to see it as Limelight really are a really talented bunch! CLICK HERE to buy tickets but be quick, they are going fast!

I would love to know if you are coming so let me know bellow 🙂

Chuck Chandler & The Go Go Five

Come and see me play live with the legend that is Ivan ‘Chuck’ Chandler!

Ivan “Chuck” Chandler started piano lessons at the age of 8 and 10 years later was playing in blues and soul bands in Streatham and Croydon.
After two years as a Music Librarian for the BBC and playing weekend gigs with the Rockhouse Band at legendary clubs such as the Flamingo and the Cromwellian, Ivan was asked to audition as pianist for Dusty Springfield. He got the job on the spot and, now as a professional musician, was very soon also pianist and organist for Lulu, Cat Stevens and Kiki Dee.

In 1969, he began a career in music publishing that spanned twenty years working for CBS, Elton John’s Rocket Music Company, Paramount Pictures and Motown International. However, he never stopped gigging and played keyboards for Johnny Johnson and the Bandwagon (“Breaking Down The Walls Of Heartache”), Motown legends The Marvelettes and even “Wonder Woman” Linda Carter.

Ivan formed Jazz/Latin Group ICQ in 1980 and, after 8 years of success with 12″ dance hits, Radio 1 and Capital Radio sessions and accolades from Pete Tong, Chris Brown and Greg Edwards, decided to get back to the blues with RUNNING BLUE, a four piece featuring Ian Whitmore (of Violinski), drummer Chris Wyles and record producer Kipper (who nicknamed him “Chuck”!).

After all those adventures, Ivan’s musical collaboration with guitarist with Jonathan Macdonald resulted in an explosive mix of ’60s Soul, Jazz, Rock & Blues, namely Chuck Chandler and the Go Go Five – and still amazing audiences 12 years later!

Come and see Chuck live at JAGZ (Ascot) on the 20th August or at The Brickmakers (Windlesham) on the 4th September!

An Update In My Session Work

People that know me know I like to stay as busy as I can, weather it be with my originals project, teaching or playing in session bands. The more intuitive ones of you will be able to tell by the title of this post, I have some new and exciting session stuff going on.

About a month ago, someone poked up out of nowhere on Facebook asking if I would drum for am. After doing some research and finding out more about his music, I said yes. So I can now say I am working with the incredibly talented Andrea Ojano. This is my first load of session work since I worked with Molly a few years ago, and boy have I missed it.

Andrea is a very busy guy. He has his original material, hence me, and he is also the singer for a Bon Jovi tribute act who’s touring schedule is completely jam packed!

I hope all of you will join his journey by giving him a like on his Facebook page and also have a look at his Website and listen to some of his stuff.

Til next time

As well as my dedication to my originals band, Elias Martell, and various solo performers, I also am about to start working with some function bands. Ever since a young age I have loved the idea of playing in a well rehearsed, organic, fun and feel good style function act…and that is what I am about to begin doing. I can’t think of a more enjoyable way to spend my time learning songs and adopting Pete Ray Biggins (Level 42, The PB Underground) way of thinking…“If people are digging what I’m doing and I can see them dancing, I know I’m doing a good job.”

The band is called Covercraft and have already started performing with another drummer who sadly had to leave. I auditioned and have been accepted into their line up and I couldn’t be happier about it. Be sure to keep an eyes out for some gigs in clubs and pubs and come down and check out the funky vibes we produce.

The BMA’s

So, the BMA’s. It was such an amazing night full of laughs and music. Now I know, people want to know, did we win? If you follow my social media you will know, yes. We are now an award winning band! I had only just gotten used to award nominated and I am still in shock I can now say award winning!

I’d like to take this moment to thank our fans as well as people who follow me. I’d also like to thank everyone who helped organise the BMA;s but especially Jamie Pitter, a man I have known for many years now and I consider a very good friend, thank you Jamie. Click here to see some pictures that were taken on the night.

In other news, more work has been coming in for me and I am slowly getting very busy which is just how I like it. I can’t say too much as a lot of it is still under wraps but I can say that my self and a very good friend of mine are going to me Musical Directors for an incredibly talented singer/songwriter. Watch this space.

As always, more news to come soon…

2015 re-cap and 2016

So after an incredible year for me as a musician, I can very proudly say it only gets better with what this new year is going to bring for me.

This past year has seen me finish my Degree, Play at Metropolis, Headline Weyfest, Play live on radio and be nominated for awards with my brothers in Elias Martell. I couldn’t have asked for a better professional year for my self or the people I have been working with.

So what about this year? Well, I can’t say too much about some things I have in the works but can confirm that I will definitely be involved with an entertainment agency, getting me involved with some high end function bands. Obviously, I do have the BMA’s coming up and you can read more about that here.

The other big thing I would like to announce is my solo project. I say solo project but by that I mean, song that I have had a lot of input with and are based around my ideas. I haven’t yet finalised a definite genre but I know it is going to be heavily Funk based. I should hopefully be able to upload some of this shortly.

I wish you all a Happy New Year and I hope your 2016 is amazing and brings you everything you could want.
